I had the pleasure of attending The Bowie Show at Golders Green Hippodrome and it was an unforgettable experience.
The production was stunning, visually delivering on lighting design which was insane and bright which provided a back drop and depicted David Bowie’s individual style and story. But also in its dynamic set design, the shows choreography fully and truly captured the essence of David Bowie’s eclectic style, which brought contagious energy throughout, The dance routines were a standout element of the show,
The various Bowie singers, (that's right multiple performers) Greg Oliver, Elliot Rose and Sian Crowe gave it their all and did a great and impressive job of embodying Bowie’s unique persona. While the vocal performances were solid, due to the differences in vocal style of the three vocalists, for me it was interesting to hear these iconic songs sung in varying styles and genres. Imagine David Bowie musical theatre style.
Simon Gwilliam created direction that is sharp and creative with Gwilliam also showing Bowie’s experimental nature, which is also embraced to the fullest, with The band being off the scale amazing and did Bowie's music justice.
For me the eight dancers, the brilliant costumes and excellent set visuals stole the show, and I think the show could reach even greater heights with more audience interaction.
Personally, I do feel there’s room for more of Bowie’s larger-than-life personality to come through in the performances, but overall, the cast’s enthusiasm was star quality and to also add to the show I would also love to see the band take on some Bowie styling too.
Overall, The Bowie Show is visually spectacular and an energetic tribute to one of music’s greatest icons. The choreography and production elements were outstanding, and the cast gave a dedicated and passionate performance. I believe the show has the potential to be absolutely phenomenal.
A fun, vibrant tribute that any Bowie fan will enjoy.
